Breast & Cervical Cancer Facts:

More than 1,600 Michigan women die every year from breast cancer and another 165 women will die from cancer of the cervix.  One-third or more of the deaths from breast cancer, and virtually all the deaths from cervical cancer, could be prevented through yearly screenings and appropriate medical follow-up of any abnormalities.

What Can Be Done?

In July 1991, the Michigan Department of Public Health received a grant from the United States Center of Disease Control.  This grant is called the Title XV amendment to the Public Health Service Act and provides a women's breast and cervical cancer control program.
